"There is a great connection between dance, climbing, yoga, sculpting and drawing. When we allow ourselves to be absorbed in the moment, to go with the natural flow of breath and movement, and let go of self-consciousness, a beautiful thing happens. The body becomes a vehicle for free creative expression - our authentic voice. This brings us into the present moment, and sets us free."  ~ Helen

Helen Pattinson has been drawing and making art since she was a 'wee nipper' and practicing yoga for over ten years. She studied classical ballet from age five to fifteen in London, UK. Discovering rock climbing in her early twenties opened up a new kind of 'dancing on rock', and later yoga entered her life - a rhythmic dance where movement is threaded on breath. Helen discovered Dancing Freedom in California and it has "literally exploded my life into dance and music!"

Helen is an artist with a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Arts & Ecology. Born in England, she loves the wild mountain life of West Coast BC, and delights in getting her feet dirty. Her passions include dancing, hiking, sculpting, drumming, sitting round the fire with friends, and river swimming with her adopted pack of dogs. She worked as an instructor at Outward Bound in Scotland and has traveled extensively - including rock climbing in Turkey, Iran, India, Tibet, China, Australia and Thailand. Helen recently traveled in the High Andes of Peru with the Q'ero Tribe, participating in ceremonies in ancient Incan sites. She is fascinated by rites of passage and ancient wisdom for modern times, and recently went on solo Vision Quest in the red desert of Arizona.

"May what I do flow from me like a river. No forcing, and no holding back. The way it is with children."
 ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
