Somatic Yoga with River 'Your body is the harp of your soul' [Kahlil Gibran] 'Somatic Yoga is a slow, gentle and meditative practice. I call it sloth yoga. Drawing inspiration from the work of Thomas Hanna and my ongoing mentorship with Elizabeth Claire Burr, we gather together to drop into deep presence and relaxation. Through slowing down, awareness arises. Patterns of tension held in the body are brought into the light of Awareness, so that they may be released. Habitual actions over time can create involuntary trauma patterns in the body called sensory-motor amnesia. Through a series of simple movements we learn to recognise and release these patterns with sensory-motor awareness, bringing freedom, ease and liberation to the body-heart-mind. If we can feel it, we can heal it. So we return to our sensing animal bodies.'
River (Helen Pattinson) has been immersed in yoga for 20+ years and became certified in 2010. Her classes invite slowing down, yawning (yes!) and releasing tension held in the body-heart-mind, so that we can return to our essential nature. And stay sane. [Sane = from Latin sanus meaning "sound, healthy."] For Yoga offerings with River, click here.
